As the function of the womb is the grower of new life, the yoni is depicted as the sacred gateway to the beginning of this process. Menstrual blood is a sign that the womb lining is shedding and the cycle is ready to begin again. This work celebrates this cycle that is a personal event and hidden from view. It celebrates the blood that has often been viewed as unwelcome and unclean. It reframes menstruation and reclaims this biological act as a positive manifestation of a fertile woman.
