Women as the sexualised object of the male gaze are loved and hated, desired and repelled, worshiped and vilified, praised and ridiculed. In this piece, the crude representation of the yoni is pinned to the frame like Christ on the cross. The female point of conception and life itself is strung up by wire and surrounded by coarse jute and wool. Below are hung objects used for ritual practises, quartz crystal, bone, wood, sea shell and a fossilised mollusc commonly called a devil’s toenail. This piece explores how the yoni is revered and crucified in equal measure.
